Practical Aspects

  • Always confirm with nursing staff. 

 

  • Always wear an ID badge.

 

  • Safety First

     - Let nursing staff know where you are and check first.

     - Sit nearest the door.

     - Know where alarm buttons etc. are.

     - Clerk in a place where you have access to other staff.

     - You MUST report cases of verbal aggression or abuse.

 

  • Seek patient’s permission.

  • Interview in pairs to start with.

  • Sensitive and empathic handling.

  • Maintain professional boundaries (including dress), confidentiality and never promise a patient that you will keep what they tell you to yourself.

  • Present to consultant, higher or core trainee.
