Physical Examination

This is important in all patients as mental disorder can be caused by physical health problems (for example depression and hypothyroidism), may increase the risk of developing physical health problems due to behaviour (self-neglect, smoking) or due to side effect of medication (diabetes etc).

 

It is important to always remember that organic disorders must be excluded before making a diagnosis of mental disorder.

 

  • Full basic physical examination

  • Basic observations

  • Cardiovascular

  • Respiratory

  • Abdominal

  • Neurological
