It is important to always remember that organic disorders must be excluded before making a diagnosis of mental disorder.

Basic bloods- FBC, U and E, LFT.

Urinary Drug Screens- to test for cannabis, amphetamines, cocaine and opiates (in specialist service saliva screens and hair strand testing is possible).

Directed imaging: X-Ray, CT or MRI.

Blood testing towards know effects of drugs.

Blood testing of plasma levels of drugs.

Directed dementia screens- exclude delirium- FBC, U and E, LFT, ESR, TFT, B12/Folate, Glucose, Syphilis, CT/MRI.
